Receiving a cancer diagnosis – or any disease diagnosis – can be scary and emotional. You may not know what your options are – and you may not even know what questions to ask to find out.
But one thing you do know is that it’s important to have all the information about possible treatment and management options so that you, your loved ones, and your healthcare team can make the decision that’s right for you.
And for some people, clinical trials – which study medications and therapies before they are available for doctors to prescribe – may be a good option. They may even give you access to treatments that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to try. Always talk to your doctor to find out whether clinical trials are a good option for you.
What is Sparrow Search?
Our search tool helps you find clinical trials that you may qualify for, just by filling out a quick, simple survey. There’s no need to spend hours sifting through confusing databases reading through information about thousands of trials one at a time, and no medical jargon that’s impossible to understand.
Today, Sparrow Search supports patients with prostate cancer. We plan to expand to help patients seeking clinical trials for many other conditions very soon.
How does it work?
Step 1: Complete the Clinical History Questionnaire
Our online survey will guide you through a series of easy-to-understand questions about your condition, such as when you were diagnosed, what type of prostate cancer you have, whether the cancer has spread, etc.
You may choose to have a list of information you know about your diagnosis – or a family member or loved one – with you when you fill out the survey, to help you remember everything and answer correctly.
Step 2: View and Sort Your Results
Once you complete the survey, you will see a list of clinical trials for which you may be eligible, based on your responses.
This list will be color coded to make it easy for you to see at a glance which trials are most likely to be right for you:
- A red circle means you do not qualify to enroll
- A yellow circle means you may partially quality, or meet some but not all of the requirements
- A green circle means that, based on your survey responses, you probably quality to enroll
You can then sort your results to make it even easier to see which trials you are likely to qualify for. You can sort by eligibility – seeing only the ones with the green circles or just the green and yellow circles, for instance, or by how close the trials are to where you live.
Step 3: Decide if You Want to Be Connected
Once you view and sort your search results, you can select any of the clinical trials for which you qualify or partially qualify and – with the click of a button – decide if you’d like us to share your contact information with the company who is conducting the trial.
From there – only if you agree to share your information – the company conducting the clinical trial can review your survey results and decide whether or not to reach out to you, if they feel you might be a good fit for their trial. If they reach out to you, they will likely ask you more questions to see if you quality and give you any additional information you need.
